Every year, the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations recognise 21st June as Motor Neuron Disease Day - a disease that affects people of all ages across the globe.

UPLANDS 1Motor neuron disease (MND) is an uncommon health condition that affects the brain and nerves. It causes weakness that gets worse over time. There is currently no cure for MND, but there are treatments to help reduce the impact it has on a person's daily life.
Some people live with the condition for many years, however, sadly, MND can significantly shorten life expectancy and, unfortunately, it is fatal.
MND does not discriminate, and for every person diagnosed, the effects of the disease will be forever felt by their families and friends.

As a charity, the MND Association takes a leading role in the global fight against MND – driving MND research - by funding research, facilitating collaboration, and raising vital awareness.
Here at Uplands Rehabilitation Centre, we collectively support their mission in every way possible, by providing rehabilitation services and advice for those affected by the disease, amongst other things.
We predominantly cater for adults who require some form of Neurological Rehabilitation caused as a result of acquired or traumatic brain Injury and these conditions include (but are not restricted to): Motor Neuron Disease, Spinal Injuries, Parkinson's Disease and more.
In acknowledgement of the work carried out by researchers, charities, the wider MND community, and to mark Global MND Awareness Day, we have listed some different ways you can support the cause and research by the MND Association.
How you can help:
● You can help increase awareness of MND research by sharing any of the Association’s messages which will be posted across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and by using the hashtag #DrivingMNDResearch.

You can share your specific involvement with the MND Association and the invaluable part you play in #DrivingMNDResearch.

● Fundraising is a great way of supporting any cause. Every penny you raise as part of an event or challenge will make a difference to people with MND and their families. You could fund vital research to help find a cure, and help support people living with MND now.

● You can donate. By making a charitable donation to the MND association, many affected families will greatly benefit.

● You are also able to subscribe to the ‘MND Research Monthly’ newsletter and have all the latest developments in MND research delivered to you.

● MND associations are now searching for people to become Cure Finders and support their United to End MND campaign.
Here at Uplands, we are happy and able to support those affected by MND. Patients will be admitted on a case by case basis and we are able to accommodate both types of funders (state and private).

If you, or anyone you know is suffering with MND and requires support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via our website, https://uplandsrehabilitioncentre.co.uk/
